Vision Document
The Vision:
SHECS is an Educational and Charitable Society undertakes all levels of educational activities, i.e., primary, secondary and higher, professional education, Agriculture and technology for all round improvement in the quality of life in India. The SHECS operates with the vision “Gospel and Plough” which means Gospel of Jesus Christ preached with power for the improvement in the quality of life of all human beings living on earth. The power of Gospel could be seen in the power of knowledge shared, technology dissemination, technology development, technology innovations and ultimate usage. Thus, the Plough indicates technology part. The mission “Feed the Hungry” (Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat” Matthew 14:16). This word of Jesus Christ gave a drive for mission to the Founder Dr. Sam Higginbottom and he landed in India to develop and establish an Agricultural Institute at Allahabad. Thus the power of Gospel was expressed in the actions of Dr. Sam Higginbottom by establishing an institution that could cater the needs of peasants and the students of agriculture. Ultimately preparing citizens imbued with the zeal of service to the mankind by promoting and disseminating technology that would ensure food security to India.

In order to continue in our mission under the vision of Gospel & Plough, it is important for the institution to be financially viable and technically sound and spiritually living. Hon'ble Vice Chancellor proposed following measures must be taken in the next 5-10 years for achieving the three-fold strength for the institution:

1) Economic Viability
The institution cannot survive only on the fees received from the students and learners. Education is not a commercial venture but it is deeply rooted in the strength of responsibility for social change. Education is to bring about change in the attitude of people and making them more responsible citizens and stewards of the planet – Earth. It is important that besides Government/State support, the university has to spin off industries related to its field of specializations. As far as SHUATS is concerned we need to venture in Agriculture industry sector. Industries so spinned off by the university will ultimately provide job opportunity to our graduates and also for the neighbourhood people. These industries are targeted to provide better food security first for the people of India and then for the neighbours in our vicinity. In order to accomplish this vision of financial and economical viability on long term basis I would suggest we must go for a minimum size holding of farm of 2000 acres and start industries such as piggery, poultry, goatery, processing, animal husbandry and dairying, seed production for cereals, pulses and vegetables. There is also possibility of establishing olive orchards which would attract less damage from the livestock, birds or animals and give good quality oil for human consumption.

2)Technological development:
Any technology developed by the university could be appropriate to solve the problems of the farmers, agriculture system, animal husbandry, dairy technology, human health, animal health and for the society as a whole. The technology must be patented and ultimately be transformed into an industry i.e. farm implements manufacturing, small implements, bullock drawn implements, implement design and manufacture and ultimately marketing within the country and its neighbor-hood. The technology must be innovative and compatible to the societal needs.

3) Spiritual health:
The Theological college, Bible school, Yeshu Darbar ministry must pursue with all our strength and supported by the management staff, students of the university. The Theological teachers will provide counselling and guidance for the students, staff undergoing any kind of pressure or stress or needing definition of their destiny.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor emphasized that if we move along with this three pronged approach, the institution will live long and be of greater service to the Nation and for the glory of its creator, “Lord Jesus Christ”.

He further enlightened the members that, three things are coming out of the vision statement, in order to continue our mission under the vision of ‘Gospel and Plough’. It is important for the institution to be financially viable, technically sound and spiritually living, so he proposed that measures need to be taken for the next 5-10 years to achieve this threefold strengths of the institution.

He said that in 1996 salaries were not paid to the society paid staff for 10 months, but we received prophetic message that in future the salaries of Society staffs will be regular and paid before, Govt. paid staff of the University and to day that prophesy has become the reality. He said that he has noticed two kinds of economies in the life of an educational institution, seasonal economy and perennial economy. Seasonal economy depends upon the crop, that is harvested and sold out and we pay the salaries, dues and other liabilities etc. from that money. But when more liabilities accumulate and we wait upon another season to clear them, so seasonal economy depends on the seasonal income that is nothing but fees in an educational institution. Now we have80% dependence on fees and 20% on the perennial income that is coming out of the Government resources/grants. We have to develop resources to reverse this format, so that we may have 80% of income from non-student professional fee, which should not be seasonal but perennial income and 20% contribution could be from the seasonal income i.e. fee. By doing so, we will have a sustainable economy for the institution and for that purpose he has suggested that we must venture into agriculture based industrial units which could be : seed farm, dairy farm, piggery units, poultry units, processing units, milk processing units, dairy processing units, meat and vegetable processing units, olive plantation, agricultural machinery production etc. People prefer olive oil for many medical reasons as our livestyle is changing, so if we produce olive oil and supply to the State, we may have perennial economy for the institution. The first industry we would like to float would be the Naini Seed Industrial Corporation (NSIC) which would be a seed industry. We need to work out thoroughly on every aspect and measures towards its economic viability.

A brief note from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Most Rev. Prof. Rajendra B. Lal on development projects of the Sam Higginbottom Educational and Charitable Society jointly with Yeshu Darbar Trust

We praise God and our Saviour Jesus Christ for the privilege that He has granted us to work in the university as well as in the activities of the Higginbottom Society. Besides Yeshu Darbar, Evangelical and village education project has also been our focal point. We believe according to Zachariah 4:6, “ So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.”, this will happen in their own times by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is also been in Proverbs 16:3, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.. that we commit our works to the Lord and we will have success. It is my firm belief that prayers can move mountains and the prayers of the righteous availeth much. Therefore all our members of the committee and readers who are given responsibility to lead the committees must devote their time specifically for the purpose given under their charge. God gave him the vision that education and educational institutions are the vehicles for gospel of Jesus Christ and they can transform the society into a civilized world, the world that fears God and shunt evil. The vision that he received are as follows:

1) In 1996 he had a vision that the Agricultural Institute Allahabad be upgraded to a status of Deemed University and we pursued the vision according to Habakkuk 2:2-3 “2 Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.

For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. And Haggai 2:7-9 “ I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty.”. With these verses he was inspired to write the vision on the walls of the institution that you can read in the Administrative building as well as the walls of the Library building so that everyone can read the vision that God gave me for the institute. He submitted the proposal for the Deemed University in 1994 and 1996 the Government of U.P. gave us NOC and it was submitted to the University Grants Commission for consideration. Finally UGC sent its Expert team to inspect our institution in May 1997 and finally God of Elijah who provided food for Elijah even from the most greedy bird ravines is also our God and made it possible finally on 15th March 2000, the Allahabad Agricultural Institute was declared as Deemed University by the Central Government. The matter does not stop here. The vision is for greater works and higher level still awaits our attention. The Institute from ‘B’ Grade came into the ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and also by the Government of India Ministry of Human Resource Development; it was declared as ‘A’ Grade in 2014. For the last 5 years we are working on SHIATS to become a State level University with Minority rights and the proposal is under consideration of the State Government and we are pursuing it. The new name of the Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS) will be Sam Higgibottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS).

2) The Immanuel University (IU) at Rae Bareilly:
Matthew 1:22-23 22. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23. “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” IU shall be structured with the faculties i.e. theology, humanities, law and science & technology. IU will be a private University under SHECS and will be established under the Legislative Act, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. Various faculties of IU will be as under:

Christian Theology
The University shall be equipping and producing Christian leaders who know the word of God, will be engaged in God’s world and will discern God’s will. They will be trained to explore the beliefs, practices, values and doctrines of people around the world.

Humanities
Through exploration of the humanities students learn how to think creatively and critically, to reason, and to ask questions. Because these skills allow the students to gain new insights into everything from poetry and paintings to business models and politics, humanistic subjects, which are the heart of a liberal arts education.

Science and Technology
Modern society needs human resource with scientific and technological qualifications at the highest level, coupled with an insight into their role as social forces that shape the future. Science and technology are major cultural products of human history, and all citizens, independently of their occupational needs, should be acquainted with them as elements of human culture. While science and technology are obviously important for economic well-being, it must also be seen from the perspective of a broad based liberal education.

Law
Legal education plays an important role in socializing the next generation of lawyers, judges, and public policymakers. As gatekeeper to the profession, IU will have a unique opportunity and obligation to make access to justice, as a social priority.

3. Shalom University of Health Sciences, Allahabad (SUHS)
The Most Rev. Prof. Rajendra B. Lal, Executive Secretary, SHECS and Vice Chancellor, SHUATS expressed his concern that there is an urgent need to train youth in the field of health and medical science to serve the sick with best technical knowhow and care. Shalom University of Health Sciences, Allahabad will provide education in all health and medical programmes, plan and implement intervention, train health workers and communities in educational methodology, design and development of educational materials and research into the social and behavioural factors that contribute to health problems.

Isaiah 45 : 1-3, says prophetically to our situation (Prophecy received in 1996)

“This is what the LORD says to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places,so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.

He said, Lord will guide us and will make provisions to develop SUHS as a private University under SHECS and will be established under the Legislative Act, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. SUHS shall be structured with five faculties, one 1000 bedded multispecialty hospital, medical college which will offer academic programmes of health and medical sciences (MBBS, BD, MS, MD, PhD etc.), paramedical programmes (diploma and degree) and nursing degree and diploma programmes.
